Every mother has a right to survive and thrive. Through Mother care programs, Kayden Foundation Uganda works hard to improve the health and nutrition of vulnerable mothers and their new born babies to ensure their survival.
For the past decade, Uganda has registered tremendous success in registering many numbers of mothers who survive after giving birth. However, there are still loopholes or gaps that need to be filled. These are brought about by factors like poverty, ignorance, less improved hospitals, teenage pregnancies, diseases like hemorrhage, to mention but a few.
As Kayden Foundation Uganda, we believe that it is a role of every citizen to ensure that mothers survive death. It is not just the role of the mothers or government, or doctors, or even husbands alone.
However much maternal mortality has reduced according to the Uganda Bureau of statistics report of 2021, the rates in Uganda are still above the global average. This is attributed to a number of causes among which include but not limited to the following;
Globally, the rates of mothers who succumb to both pre-birth and post-birth hemorrhage have reduced. However, it has remained a prevailing problem in developing countries including Uganda. The good news is that the disease is preventable and curable. This means that all that mothers need is information, attention and diagnosis both during and after pregnancy. Post partem hemorrhage is caused by the 4 T’s i.e. (uterine atony [Tone]; laceration, hematoma, inversion, rupture [Trauma]; retained tissue or invasive placenta [Tissue]; and coagulopathy [Thrombin]).
This is one of the gospels spread by Kayden Foundation Uganda since the goal is having a Uganda that is free of maternal deaths.
It is important for mothers to maintain a balanced blood pressure level during and after pregnancy. This is because high blood pressure can result into death even after one has given birth. Mothers are therefore required to visit their doctors as recommended to keep their blood pressure level in check.
It is important for mothers to continuously have a balanced diet even after they have given birth. This is because they may lose a lot of energy in the process of giving birth. This is also important for the health of their new born babies. Poor feeding has proved to be one of the major causes of deaths of mothers in Uganda. It is attributed to factors like poverty where by mothers cannot afford and access the recommendable food during and after pregnancies.
Giving birth to a baby comes with a lot of joy, however, it can be the worst experience for some individuals due to stressful events that it comes with. Imagine teenage mothers who might have acquired pregnancies out of their will! Life becomes difficult for them even after they are through pregnancy, labor pains and even giving birth. There is stress that is natural that comes with giving birth which can also be a problem once it is not managed well. Kayden Foundation Uganda offers postpartum care programs that help mothers cope up with such stressors. By doing this we believe that Uganda can be free from maternal deaths in the next ten years.
It is true that sometimes all that mothers need is support from people around them. Be it husbands, brothers, sisters or neighbors. This helps them reduce on the stress that comes with giving birth. Help can be talking to them, washing clothes for their new born babies, cooking for them and just being around them.
